United States visas are split into two primary categories:

Nonimmigrant Visas (Temporary Stays)

These visas allow foreign nationals to enter the country for specific, time-limited purposes. 

• Tourism and Business (B-1/B-2): B-1 visas cover short-term business trips, while B-2 visas are used for tourism, family visits, or medical treatments. 

• Specialty Employment (H-1B): Intended for specialty occupations requiring a university degree or equivalent technical expertise. 

• Intracompany Transfers (L-1): For managers, executives, or specialized knowledge employees transferring from an overseas office to a U.S. branch. 

• Student and Exchange (F-1/J-1): F-1 visas are for full-time academic studies, whereas J-1 visas host exchange visitors participating in approved work-and-study programs. 

• Extraordinary Ability (O-1): For individuals possessing an acclaimed national or international reputation in science, education, business, athletics, or the arts. [1]

 

Immigrant Visas (Permanent Residence)

Commonly referred to as Green Cards, these grant permanent residency and a pathway to citizenship. 

• Immediate Relatives & Family-Sponsored: For spouses, parents, and children of U.S. citizens. There is no annual cap for immediate family members.

• Employment-Based (EB-1 to EB-5): Preference categories ranging from priority workers (EB-1) and advanced degree professionals (EB-2) to specialized skilled workers (EB-3) and foreign investors (EB-5). Backlogs exist for highly populated source countries.

CHINA

L VISA it is for tourism purposes which issues a duration from 60 to 90 days.

BUSINESS VISA

• China visa type F is offered to those who want to visit the country for non-commercial reasons on behalf of their employer. Valid reasons for such visits include cultural exchanges, scientific research, study visits (less than 180 days), attending lectures, etc. It’s usually a single-entry visa whose typical duration of stay is 30-90 days.

• China visa type M is available for foreigners who intend to visit China for trade and commercial activities on behalf of their non-Chinese employer. You must also receive an invitation into the country by a China-based business to get this visa.

FAMILY VISA

• Foreign nationals intending to visit family members in China will require either a Q visa or an S visa, with a duration typically ranging from 90 to 180 days. U.S. citizens may be eligible for a multiple-entry China Q or S visa, which remains valid for up to ten years.

WORK VISA

The China work visa type Z is a single-entry visa available for foreigners who have obtained a job offer from a China-incorporated company. It is also given to their family members. This visa is the most common visa type for people who work in the country and is valid for 3 months. To obtain a work visa (Z), you must have an employment license or a work permit issued by the Chinese government. But you must apply to get a Residence Permit within 30 days of entry into China. How long you end up staying in China will be determined by the Temporary Residence Permit. The work permit can be renewed if you change employers.
